2 Boys Charged in Assault on Former New York Gov. David Paterson and Stepson

Two teenage boys have been charged in connection with an assault on former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson in Harlem on Sunday night.

The incident occurred when Paterson and his stepson were walking near their home on West 122nd Street around 10 p.m. According to police, the two boys, aged 15 and 16, approached them and attempted to rob them. When Paterson and his stepson resisted, the boys allegedly punched and kicked them before fleeing the scene.

Paterson and his stepson were both taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries, which were described as non-life-threatening. Paterson, who served as governor of New York from 2008 to 2010, released a statement following the attack, expressing his gratitude to the NYPD for their quick response and condemning the violence.

The two boys were arrested on Monday and charged with assault, attempted robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon. They are currently being held in custody pending a court appearance.

This incident has once again highlighted the issue of violence in New York City, particularly in neighborhoods like Harlem where crime rates are higher than in other parts of the city. Community leaders and residents have called for increased police presence and more resources to address the root causes of violence in these areas.

As for Paterson and his stepson, they are expected to make a full recovery from their injuries. The former governor has vowed to continue speaking out against violence and working to make his community a safer place for all residents.
