Trump Says ‘America Is Back’ and Taunts Rivals in Speech to Congress
In his first address to Congress since leaving office, former President Donald Trump declared that “America is back” and took aim at his political rivals in a fiery and combative speech.
Trump, who has been largely out of the public eye since leaving the White House in January, made a triumphant return to the spotlight with his address to a packed audience in Washington, D.C. In his speech, Trump touted his administration’s accomplishments and criticized President Joe Biden’s handling of various issues, including immigration, the economy, and foreign policy.
“We made America great again, and now we must make America great again, again,” Trump said to cheers from the crowd. “Under my leadership, we achieved historic economic growth, record-low unemployment, and peace through strength on the world stage. But now, our country is in crisis, and it’s time to take action.”
Trump took particular aim at Biden’s immigration policies, accusing the current administration of allowing a “crisis at our southern border” to spiral out of control. He also criticized Biden’s handling of the economy, claiming that his policies were leading to inflation and job losses.
But perhaps the most striking aspect of Trump’s speech was his taunting of his political rivals, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Trump referred to Harris as “the most unpopular vice president in history” and called Schumer a “weak and ineffective leader.”
The former president also took a swipe at the media, accusing them of spreading “fake news” and bias against him and his supporters. He urged his followers to “fight back against the lies and smears” and to stay united in their support for his America First agenda.
Overall, Trump’s speech was a clear signal that he is not going away quietly and that he intends to remain a major player in American politics. His message of “America is back” may resonate with his supporters, but it is sure to further deepen the political divide in the country.
As the 2022 midterm elections approach, it remains to be seen what impact Trump’s return to the political arena will have on the Republican Party and the wider political landscape. But one thing is certain: Trump is back, and he is not holding back in his criticism of his rivals.
